RPLTo put Prowler in prospective, consider what www.HEMI.com says about the ultra-rare 426 HEMI cars.....

"Production of the 426 HEMI for street vehicles ends (1971). Approximately 11,000 HEMI cars were produced between 1966 and 1971."

PARTSMANI found an article from an old Mopar Collectors Guide(april 2002) that states according to Chrysler records. 1530 purple,1576 yellow, 1911 black, 1573 red, 151 red/black tutoned, 1342 silver, 163 silver/black, 1039 orange, 1278 Mulholland blue, and 616 inca gold. That is the only info I have on numbers sold. Some one else could have different numbers. Marc
SPCL-TNice point RPL!

Try to find a HEMI (anything) now, and see what you'll pay for it. Even a 35-yr/old rust bucket w/ matching numbers is worth a lot today - no matter how many miles are on it.

To bad we have to wait 20+ yrs for the value of our Kats to become comparable to the HEMI's.

If the Hemi's are 35 years old, why would we have to wait only 20 years? I think what gets the price up too is the muscle in the word "Muscle Car" (think 426 HEMI, which we ain't got).

Not saying they won't be worth something but, won't be up there with what a 400+ CI engine car recently discontinued would go for.

As you can see here, most of your #s are pretty close

CJThat number probably does not include the prototypes, concepts and pilot vehicles.

But how many of the prototypes & concepts are or will be "crushed" or lost ... pilots I know reach the public, and I Scream will eventually um ... well, melt ... but what of any of the others (assuming Mike didn't buy them all)??

CJTrue, Ray, but the original statement was how many were produced......not how many still exist!
Kevin AI think the big difference with the Hemi cars and the Prowler is the Hemis were bought and used HARD on the street and strip. Many Prowlers are garage queens. The attrition rate of old Mopars was times greater than the number of Prowlers lost each year. Back in the late 60's, if anyone had an idea their Hemi Cuda or Challenger would be a $50K to $100K car, they would never have driven them the way they did.

I don't doubt Prowlers will appreciate in value, but it will take quite a few years if they do.

Kevin ATrue Story.....

I met a nice guy from North carolina at our annual trip to Hilton Head Island last week. He was washing his Orange Kat and I stopped to talk to him. He bought it a couple of weeks ago from a dealer who took it in on trade.

The original owner was a woman from NY. (Don't start flaming me, I'm just telling the TRUE story). She had the car RUSTPROOFED. He has been working to get all of the tar off of the visible areas so the aluminum shows through again!

Steven R. GaryHey, my prowler is "Orange" and it has appreciated and is now worth $50,000.00. Of course it is not for sale and no one has offered me that price, but in my own mind I know it is worth it. Maybe 35 years from now someone will agree with me...
Tytanium-KSteven R Gary,
Please make that 20 years from now...in 35 years I'll be dead!
ed monahanIt don't matter what it is worth if you are not selling it.
SPCL-TYellowFever:
Isn't it 20 or 25 yrs for a car to be considered a classic? Which is the same threshold for the "typical" car to start to appreciate in value (significantly). My car is already 6-yrs old (from both date of production & purchase).

If I keep my Kat 20+ more yrs, at least I will appreciate its value. Today, I'd be happy if someone would give me $35K for car (w/ mod's) & trailer (new). Either way, setting behind the wheel of SPCL-T, or having cash in hand - I'm content (for the moment).

True, of course with inflation, in 20 years someone would have to give you $150K just so you could replace it with a Yugo.

Had to be a dealer suggested procedure. When I bought my Prowler, I spent an hour patiently listening (I stared off into space) to a sales pitch to get my car clearcoated. When she was done, and I said no thanks, she got really pissed at me for wasting her time, and said that she couldn't believe I was spending that kind of money on a car and not even protecting the paint job by clearcoating it for another mere $1000. If they think they can pull one over on ya, they will try their best.
